Could a vote for Nader be a vote for Kerry?

I first heard about this idea about 2 weeks ago. What if Ralph Nader nominated the very same electors to the electoral college as John Kerry? Well, the idea is that the electors would vote for whoever they got the most votes from, most likely Kerry. Sounds like a great idea to me. It could even jumpstart Instant Run-off Voting. I don't know if this is probable or even legal, but I hope so. Read Bruce Ackerman's Nytimes editorial, 2-for-1 Voting (I've linked it to commondreams' archive, because nytimes wants you to pay 2.95 for this 2 week old article)
Also here's a letter from Granny D that discusses the issue.
